DNTS was formed in March 2009, patterned after the Really Terrible Orchestra (RTO) of Scotland.
We are an eclectic group of more than 30 people who enjoy playing music as part of an ensemble. Our ages range from high school to retired and our skill levels range from intermediate to very proficient.
Ours is not a serious orchestra; we're here to have fun. Having said that, we do try to become better musicians with practice, and that turns out to be part of the fun. To that end, our co-conductors, Marti Hopson and Tim Fitzpatrick, insist (suggest, urge, hope) that we practice a minimum of ten minutes per day. A small price to pay. (And the other price is a $5.00 bi-weekly.)
Currently, we are at capacity with our membership due to space limitations at our current practice venue and the need to social distance as per Covid-19 protocols. Please contact us if you have any questions.
INSTRUMENTS
Our current mix includes traditional: violin, cello, flute, clarinet, french horn, trumpet, percussion .... and non-traditional: celtic harp, recorder, alto sax, keyboard, electric bass guitar, and acoustic guitars. Many of our members have brought their instruments out of retirement, others have purchased or rented.

DNTS has an informal structure but is very fortunate to have members who have continued to provide support to the orchestra in a number of different ways including:

Over the years, some wonderful arrangers have arranged music for us to meet our special needs, thus we have built up a good repertoire and are constantly adding to it. New members should not feel overwhelmed because some of our pieces are very easy, others are more challenging ... there is something for everyone.

The selections recorded in the spring of 2011 are audio only, however, the June 14, 2014 season-ending concert is video footage of the orchestra playing, blended with slideshows of photos that illustrate the music and were shown during the concert. OUR GIGS
Some members prefer NOT to play at these
which is totally fine with us … not everyone wants to perform in public.
However, for those who wish to perform, each spring and in June
we put on a small concert for the residents of Andrews as a way of
thanking them for the use of their facility each week. In the past, we have also ventured out into the community to play. We
have played for cruise ships (we were invited back so we can't be
too bad!!) and, in the summer of 2013, we played at the wedding of one of our former
violinists .
